5 exfoliating tips for glowing skin

The winter Party season is here, is your body ready to glow?

Beauties, when your skin is soft and smooth, every move you make feels that much more beautiful. From floating through a party with your shoulders on display, to jumping in the sheets after a shower, nothing makes you feel as gorgeous as beautiful skin does.

1. For incredible skin: Exfoliate.

Whether your skin is dry and flaky, oily, or sensitive, exfoliating your body is key. It helps soften the appearance of sun damage, increase glow, and soothe and clear your skin.

“With exfoliation you’re effectively removing dead cells to make your skin look and feel smoother and brighter” says Dr. Costi.

2. How often should you exfoliate?

As per Dr. Costi, this depends on your skin type. “If you have very dry or sensitive skin, you might want to do it less frequently. If you’re not sensitive or you have oily skin, your skin can benefit from a bit more.”

PHYSICAL Exfoliants

Physical (or mechanical) exfoliation involves manually scrubbing away dead skin cells and other buildup using tools like a dry brush or a washcloth, or scrubs made with textured ingredients like ground minerals, grains, or plant fibers.

Uriage Body Scrubbing Cream for Body

Effective scrubbing with the combination of chemical and mechanical technology. This 2 in 1 exfoliating body scrub gently removes dead cells and gives you soft, toned skin with its hydrating and soothing features.

CHEMICAL Exfoliants

Chemical exfoliation uses acids (like glycolic acid or salicylic acid) or enzymes (from fruits like papaya and guava) to sweep away cells and debris. The beauty of chemical exfoliants is their ability to exfoliate evenly, sweeping away dead skin in a way that helps the skin underneath function better (and allows moisturizers and active ingredients to work better also).

Sesderma Acglicolic Classic Body Milk

Formulated with a combination of Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Crithmum maritimum extract, a powerful antioxidant that softens rough areas quickly, delivering visibly smooth, naturally glowing skin.

 3. Where on your body are you exfoliating?

For targeted areas like the back or chest, the powerful concentration of glycolic acid in can help a lot. However, if you’re exfoliating an area that you’ve just shaved and where you might have ingrown hairs, a chemical peel might sting so better use a physical exfoliation.

As for the bikini line, exfoliating gently can help a lot with ingrown hair and blemishes. We love the DCL Radiance peel.

DCL G10 Radiance Peel

10% Glycolic acid frees skin from dry, dead cells to clear pores, making them look smaller and tighter, while effectively treating existing blemishes and preventing new ones from developing.

4. Don’t exfoliate TOO MUCH

“You may think that the harder you exfoliate, the better the outcome but it’s not true” says Dr. Costi.

“Aggressive exfoliation can irritate skin, break down your skin’s barrier and make you more susceptible to bacterial infection” explains Dr. Costi.

5. Moisturize after exfoliating

Whatever type of exfoliation you are using, it’s important to follow it with a moisturizer to further smooth the surface and help maintain the skin barrier explains Dr. Costi. Use a body oil or cream to lock moisture in and envelop your skin with the goodness of active ingredients.

Bio Oil Dry Skin Gel

This breakthrough new Dry Skin Gel replenishes the skin’s barrier and deeply moisturizes it.

The unique gel-to-oil texture absorbs easily and creates a protective film to resist moisture loss and restore dry skin to its optimal hydrated state.
