Skin care for your hair? Yes you need it.

Ladies and gentlemen, beauties, this is a revelation: our skin doesn’t stop at our face. It actually extends to cover our head, but do we ever really think about it?✨

Well it’s about time, because we all care about having beautiful hair, so now we will actually know how to properly care for the source of our healthy hair: the scalp.

Hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, collagen and niacinamide are not only for our face, they are also for our hair as we will see with the new types of skincare for our hair.

What does our scalp need? 🌺

Maintaining a healthy scalp is a comprehensive approach to strengthen our hair and deal with any scalp concerns with the help of serums, masks and moisturizers.

“We need to take good care of our scalp, because our hair grows out of it!” explains Dr. Costi. It can become clogged from products buildup, as well as sensitive from harsh hair products. “In both cases, this affects the hair follicles and you end-up with unwanted hair problems.”

True! We concur…especially when we come back from holidays with a burnt scalp from too much sun. Some people even get scalp acne, other than the usual dandruff and oily hair.

Here are some of the products you should be using, whether you’re looking for a shampoo, conditioner, leave-in or mask.

1. Scalp shampoo

A scalp shampoo should do two things: clear the build-up of products and grime on your scalp (without stripping it) and then nourish the skin. This is important to remove excess oils and dead skin cells, as well as replenish the skin with active ingredients like collagen and niacinamide.

If you suffer from an irritated scalp, find a soothing anti-microbial shampoo and a daily astringent with ingredients such as witch hazel (an astringent), piroctone olamine (anti-bacterial) and camphor (soothing).

2. Scalp scrub

A scalp scrub is great to get a deeper cleanse of product build-up, and get rid of flakiness. Just make sure the scrub is specifically formulated for the scalp, and check that it has a fine texture – anything abrasive will just cause more issues.

3. Scalp serum

Just like a serum you’d use on your face, you can choose a scalp serums for specific scalp issues. They are packed with active ingredients that will boost scalp health, like Vitamin C, clay, or hyaluronic acid. Choose the right one for your skin-type, whether that be clarifying, hydrating or healing.

4 . Scalp oils & treatments

If you’re not used to putting oil on your scalp it might sound scary (especially if you battle with greasy hair), but the right formula could actually counteract over-active sebum production and encourage healthy hair growth by starting at the follicle. We love coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil and argan oil.

A scalp treatment will give similar targeted results, leading to healthier hair from root to tip.

5. Scalp mask

Just as you indulge in a hair mask, it’s nice to give your scalp an extra bit of love with a mask.

To remedy a lackluster or groggy scalp, why not use a mask twice a week, preferably containing salicylic, lactic and hyaluronic acid which will work together to exfoliate, cleanse and soothe.

Now who’s ready to scrub their scalp and get beautiful hair? We’re feeling extra fresh and smooth, aren’t you beauties? 💋💋
