Prejuvenation: how to stay forever young

Prejuvenation: how to stay forever young

Humans have always been obsessed with youth and beauty, searching for the fountain of youth. So it’s very logical that if you start taking care of your skin at a young age, then you can stay younger for longer. Right?

But how young is too young to start getting Botox, fillers and facial procedures? When should we start thinking about preventing fine lines and wrinkles?

We asked Dr. Costi about the actual effects and safety of prejuvenation.

Prejuvenation is a term that’s being used for younger patients looking to prevent sun spots, wrinkles and skin sagging, explains Dr. Costi.

The preventative anti-aging trend has been increasingly popular among people younger than 30, as they go after beauty treatments to prevent the signs of aging rather than correct them.

We start losing bone at age 25 and that bone loss becomes significant by 35. That’s why we start to notice wrinkles around that age. Because every time we laugh or frown, when your muscles contract they don’t have bone to retract back onto.

Therefore by relaxing those muscles you minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

“Taking care of your skin and having a good protection routine is becoming more and more popular among my younger patients, not just the older ones” says Dr. Costi who is happy that everyone is taking good care of their skin.

“People are also more aware about their skin care needs, that’s why they actively look to stimulate collagen production in the skin as well as tightening procedures”.

For Dr. Costi, the logic is sound: it’s better to prevent rather than try to turn back the clock when it’s too late. While there are no rules in general, you should look into fillers when you start noticing lines appearing around your face. It could be at 25 or at 45, what matters is that you’re doing it to correct a flaw, and to remain fresh and youthful.

“I would never give Botox to someone who doesn’t need it” insists Dr. Costi. In fact, he’d rather that his patients commit to other ways to prevent the signs of aging before coming in for injections.

Here are 5 prejuvenation basics that everyone can follow depending on their personal needs.

1: Sun protection ☀️

Your most effective anti-aging weapon is protection from the sun. Regular use of sunscreens will not only protect your skin from skin cancer, but will also help prevent fine wrinkles, brown spots, and the overall loss of collagen that lead to visible signs of skin aging.

2: Retinol 💁‍♀️

Retinol is the most effective topical product available for stimulating collagen. It also alters the way skin grows, diminishing photodamage. The earlier it is used, the better protected is the skin and the more damage is prevented.

3: Botox 💉

Injection of neuromodulators such as Botox will relax the muscles that form the horizontal lines of the forehead as well as the vertical frown lines that often make people look upset or angry. Additionally, neuromodulators can be used around the eyes and eyebrows to help shape the brows as well, open and brighten up the eyes and diminish “crow’s feet”. This is a key step in “prejuvenation”.

 4: Resurfacing procedures 😎

To take away sun damage there are now many procedures such as fractional laser and IPL. These improve skin texture with no down time.

 5: Fillers 👄

The natural loss of collagen in our skin causes a loss of volume in our face, with the overall result of wrinkles and hollow cheeks. This loss can be replaced with soft tissue fillers like hyaluronic acid to keep a more natural look to the face.

It is very important that the filler be injected by an experienced professional who will also advise you on the best type of filler that will suit your face.
