Get your skin ready for autumn

  • August 27, 2024

Beauties, as the leaves change, so should your skincare routine! Autumn is the perfect time to give your skin a little reset, especially if the summer left it feeling less than fabulous. Whether you’re dealing with oily skin, dry patches, or the first signs of aging, we asked Dr. Costi for some tips to tweak our skincare routine for autumn, based on your skin type.

For Oily Skin: Time to Tackle That Shine

Good news for those with oily skin—autumn can actually be a bit of a blessing! The cooler weather means less sweat and reduced chances of breakouts. But that doesn’t mean you can slack on your skincare.

Start with a gentle cleanser and the right toner to keep things balanced.

Vichy Normaderm toner

Then reach for a moisturizer with ingredients like Jojoba oil. This superstar ingredient attracts moisture to your skin without making it greasy, helping you stay hydrated without the risk of breakouts.

Soskin shine control moisturizer

Quick tip: keep an eye out for noncomedogenic products, which means they won’t clog your pores.

For Dry Skin: Protect and Hydrate

If you have dry skin, autumn can be a bit tricky. The drop in humidity can turn your skin from dry to downright dehydrated or inflamed. To avoid this, start by ditching any harsh scrubs or facial brushes that can strip away what little moisture your skin has left.

Switch to a richer moisturizer that forms a protective barrier on your skin, locking in moisture and keeping your skin soft and smooth.

SkinCeuticals Resveratrol Serum

Quick tip: be cautious with ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and retinoids- they can be too harsh for dry skin in the autumn. If your skin starts feeling extra sensitive, it might be time to take a break from these products.

For Combination Skin: Balance Is Key

Combination skin can be a bit of a puzzle, especially in the autumn. You might notice that your T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) is oily, while your cheeks are dry. It might be tempting to go for a strong cleanser to deal with the oiliness, but that could leave the drier areas even more irritated. Instead, use a mild cleanser with cool water to keep things balanced.

When it comes to moisturizing, treat different areas of your face differently. Use a lightweight moisturizer for your T-zone and a slightly richer one for your cheeks.

Vichy Aqualia moisturizer

Ingredients like hyaluronic acid are excellent for this—they provide hydration without weighing your skin down, and they can even help smooth out fine lines with consistent use.

For Aging Skin: Reintroduce Retinoids

If you’re starting to notice fine lines and wrinkles, autumn is the perfect time to bring retinoids back into your routine. They are fantastic for boosting collagen production, which keeps your skin firm and smooth.

Sesderma Anti-aging cream

However, note that it is better to use retinoids only during your night routine in the case of periods of frequent sun exposure.

So beauties, as you switch out your summer wardrobe for cozier clothes, don’t forget to update your skincare routine too. And as always, you can keep your skin looking fabulous all year long by getting in touch with Dr. Costi for your personal consultation right here.
