Daily life with eczema can be stressful!

Beauties, the slightest change in environment or temperature can cause skin discomfort, dry patches and red sores causing this skin condition known as atopic dermatitis. It’s a painful reality but you have to learn how to deal with it.
Drinking alcohol, bathing in hot water or even wearing wool clothing can all cause flare-ups and massive discomfort. Then, as soon as the temperatures drop in winter, the signs of facial eczema get stronger.

We asked Dr. Costi to give us the best solutions to treat it, with trusted products to treat this skin ailment.

Dr. Costi’s tip before we start: Keep your skin moisturized and avoid wearing make-up over eczema.

What is eczema?

Eczema is a common skin condition known as atopic dermatitis. It’s defined by patches of rough skin, dry and red (non-contagious). These patches can sometimes appear all over the body, itching and causing thicker and darker areas of skin where they are repeatedly scratched.

What ingredients can irritate eczema?

An eczema “episode” can be caused by chemicals in soaps, detergents or fragrances.
As per Dr. Costi, it’s better to avoid any active skin care ingredients (like Retinol) on areas affected by eczema.

How to treat this sensitive and reactive skin condition?

This inflammation of the skin is due to a dysfunction of the skin barrier, so the priority is to repair and hydrate the skin barrier by using special products designed for sensitive skin.

Step One: Cleanse

Use a gentle cleanser with lukewarm water, Never scrubbing or rubbing your skin. Gently dab with a soft cloth!
Cleanse your face morning and evening, and immediately after exercise or sweating.

A-Derma Emollient Cleansing Gel
This foam gel will protect you against daily skin dryness: it cleanses, soothes, and calms itching sensations.

Step Two: Moisturize

Moisturizing is the most important part of your skin care for eczema, yet it’s not enough to use one moisturizer. To optimize your skin care, you need to layer different types of moisturizers for the best result.
1. Start with a humectant (urea or hyaluronic acid serum),
2. Follow with an emollient (rich cream with ceramides or squalane)
3. Then seal with an occlusive (a face oil to prevent transepidermal water loss).

Uriage Cold Protective Cream
With its creamy and non-greasy texture, Uriage Cold Cream is the ideal daily face and body protective treatment. It protects the skin from external aggressions (wind, cold, hard water, etc.)

Flexitol Very Dry Skin Lotion
It contains 10% Urea and 1% Dimethicone, suitable for use on very dry and itchy skin such as Winter Itch, Ichthyosis, Xerosis, Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis or other dermatological conditions.
It is also a non-greasy formula suitable for the whole body, and clinically tested to leave skin hydrated for 24 hours after only 1 application.

Step Three: Protect

Sun exposure can actually make eczema worse, so remember to apply a good sunscreen before going out each morning.

Obagi Physical Defense SPF50 Lightly Tinted, Lightweight and Sheer
Uniquely formulated with mineral sunscreen agents fortified with antioxidants to offset free-radicals and oxidative stress in skin.
