Did you know that celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley swear by Retinol for their perfect skin?

Well beauties we won’t argue with a supermodel, we believe her!

While introducing retinol into your beauty routine might seem intimidating, it’s actually relatively simple as long as you follow a few simple steps! This amazing product can do so much for your skin, and it’s hailed as the holy grail of skin care ingredients.

Some of its results are improved skin texture, boosting collagen and diminishing dark spots, but it also might have an adverse effect like irritation and redness. That’s why we wanted to have Dr. Costi’s advice on how to start using incorporating it safely in our skin routine.

What is retinol?

Retinol is naturally produced by your body and helps your skin with cell turnover, boosting collagen production and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It’s a derivative of the more powerful prescription “retinoids”, derived from Vitamin A, and it can help to unclog pores, exfoliate and smooth skin, diminish the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin hydration and treat acne.

“This is truly a magical ingredient when you think of everything it can do” according to Dr. Costi, especially that it can also help thicken the dermis, turning the skin younger and healthier.

How to start using Retinol?

Dr. Costi’s first tip is to start with a very small amount on one night, and then wait a few days to evaluate your tolerance. If you don’t have a reaction like redness or irritation, then it’s safe to try the product again using it twice a week. But if you notice any redness or skin flakiness, then it’s probably best to inform your dermatologist who might suggest another product.

It’s also key to start by using it at night since it makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. It’s important to note that while using Retinol you need to wear a high SPF every day.

Caution: Retinol is not recommended for sensitive or rosacea-prone skin and cannot be used if you are pregnant. Please check with your dermatologist before use.
