Ramadan beauty tips: 5 ways to keep your skin hydrated and glowing

  • April 11, 2021

With Ramadan approaching, now is the time to prepare a beautifying skincare routine to help you look and feel better than ever during this time 🌒

In this holy month, our skin tends to get dehydrated due to the fasting, the irregular sleep and also the change in our eating. So to keep a fresh look all day long and then through the night, we asked Dr. Costi for a few of his tips and tricks ✨

Here are 5 tips to keep our skin healthy during Ramadan 🦋

1. Hydrate with water

“Drink at least eight glasses of water between iftar and suhoor” advises Dr. Costi. And if you don’t like plain water, try carbonated water or mineral water infused with fruits. It boosts your immune system, flushes out toxins and gives you a boost of vitamins. We love to make our own water coolers and keep them in the fridge.

Try these refreshing water infusions and don’t hesitate to mix them: lemon, cucumber, mint, orange, strawberries, ginger, and pineapple.

2. Skip the sun

The sun can stress out our skin, not only dehydrate it, especially when the weather becomes humid. “Whether you’re sitting on your balcony, taking a walk or running errands, always wear sunscreen” insists Dr. Costi. And if you’re gona “social distance” in the mountains or on the beach, try to stay in the shade. Your sunscreen should be at least SPF30 and you should reapply it every 2 hours.

3. Glow from the inside

Antioxidants are the secret to glowing skin, especially when you’re fasting.

Dr. Costi suggests to eat more super-foods like berries, almonds, dark chocolate and pomegranates. Not only are they rich in fiber, they are a great source of vitamins and minerals your skin needs after a day of fasting.

He also recommends to cut out caffeine and sugar if you want to lend your skin a helping hand. Caffeine flushes out toxins, but it also sucks out the minerals from our body. And as for sugar, well we know for a fact that it causes premature aging, loss of collagen and acne.

I think that’s enough to convince us!

4. Treat your skin

Now’s a great time to give your skin care an extra hydrating boost.

“If you start noticing dark circles under your eyes, don’t worry” says Dr. Costi. Use an eye mask (that you keep in the fridge for that extra coolness), hydrate, and exfoliate as usual. “It will probably be because of the changes in your sleep and diet”.

How about adding an oil to your usual routine? An oil cleanser or an oil serum will do wonders under your hydrating cream.

5. Schedule a nap

Your sleeping schedule will probably be disrupted during this month of festivities, which might lower your energy and show its effect on your skin. As you know, we need around 8 hours of sleep to get the release of hormones that repair our skin and muscle tissue. So whenever you can, schedule a nap, catch some minutes of rest, or sneak-in some down time. It will help you look and feel better.

Wishing you beauties a blessed month 😊 Ramadan Kareem!
