As we venture outside again and experience the world, finally we are ready for travelling. So you’ve planned your trip and you’re taking all the health precautions, but are you sure you’ve got everything you need? Let’s have a look at the skin care you’re packing, because even before you arrive to your destination, your skin will be put to the test while in transit ☀️☔✈️
Be it on an airplane, train or automobile, the AC, hand sanitizer and the heat can take their toll on your skin leaving it dehydrated. As well as with being tired or sleepy, this will all cause your skin to look less than fabulous 👀
We asked Dr. Costi for some recommendations to take care of our skin with a simple routine while traveling.
In Transit 🚗
Even before arriving to your destination, you can give your skin a very helpful boost of hydration with a hydrating face mask that you can put on while travelling- especially sitting on the plane.
Also a hydrating mist will come in handy at any moment whether you’re hot, tired or just need to refresh.
In the morning
1. Cleanse: This ritual will not only clear away the dead skin and refresh you, it is important for the circulation in your facial muscles. Gently massage your face to get the blood flowing and help reduce any puffiness. Cleaning with a lotion, cream or facial wash are all good options.
2. Hydrate: Your morning routine shouldn’t change just because you’re away, but do consider a lighter cream or gel to avoid clogging your pores.
If you have greasy skin or a tendency to sweat, just hydrate at night. Hydration is also achieved by drinking lots of water and using a hydrating mist throughout the day. We just love any mist, especially with rose water.
And don’t forget your hand cream.
3. Apply sunscreen: Of course you know this is Dr. Costi’s golden rule! It has also become very easy to protect yourself from the sun as most make-up brands have marketed BB creams and foundations with SPF. This will also help protect you from other weather aggressions and pollution.
While travelling, the sunscreen should always be in your handbag as you will need to reapply it every few hours even if it is a high SPF.
Extra tip: If you are going to wear make-up to the beach, you might as well apply your sunscreen underneath.
At night
1. Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse: You will never stop hearing this because it’s true: the most important thing is to cleanse your face at night before you sleep. A micellar water will also help reduce any mild inflammation from a long hot day.
2. Apply Vitamin C: To stimulate collagen and recovery at night, use a Vitamin C serum or cream. It is a powerful antioxidant and comes highly recommended by all dermatologists.
Ask Dr. Costi for a brand recommendation if you don’t already have a favorite.
Extra tip: don’t use Vitamin C during the day since it might cause irritation.
What if you lose your luggage or have an emergency? 🆘
Ok. So you’ve lost all of your beloved products and your expensive hand cream, and there are no beauty shops around. Don’t panic. Here are products that you can find at any shop.
Disposable facial wipes: they might not be fantastic, but they are just fine for now! Any facial wipes are better than not cleaning your face (last option: soap and water).
Vaseline: you can find a petroleum jelly product anywhere, and it will protect your skin from aggressions until you can get your hands on your brand products.
Sunscreen: any sunscreen is better than nothing. Use the highest SPF you can find.
So that was easy! With a simple and effective daily skin care routine you will be travel-selfie-ready at anytime, anywhere. Say skin care!
