Have you ever heard some of your grandma’s beauty advice? How true and simple it must be to follow some other old fashioned recommendations from our grandma’s time! Before the expensive and complex beauty regimens, before the salon treatments and cosmetic tricks, let’s discover some of the good old recipes to fight wrinkles and soften our skin. And you don’t need a time machine, you’ll find everything you need in your kitchen to bring your beauty routine back to a simpler time.

Oil and vinegar for acne
More reasons to love olive oil, which is also championed as a skin softener. Mix oil, vinegar, a touch of salt and sugar and dab your face with this magic acne repellent. Do this once a week and you will never break out.

Coconut oil to remove makeup
A staple of natural holistic lifestyle, coconut oil is used all over body and more specifically to remove makeup. Use it every day as part of your skin care routine: rub the oil into your skin and with wet washcloth gently move in circular motions to wipe off the makeup.

Mayo as hair conditioner
The beautiful Blake Lively swears by this trick that her mom taught her. It might sound very weird, but this old recipe for shiny hair truly works! Most common jars of mayo contain soybean oil, which has lots of fatty acids that make hair shiny, smooth, and tangle free. Lather it into your hair and keep it for at least an hour, but then be sure to wash it completely out.

Black tea for sunburn
We all know the horror of red throbbing sun burns, especially when you fall asleep under the sun on a hot summer day. But you might not know that soaking your burns with tea will stop the stinging pain and help the healing of inflamed skin all over your body. After you brew a pitcher and get it to room temperature, soak a towel in the black tea and dab your burning skin with it. You can also place the used teabags directly on your skin, which is a trick mostly used to reduce puffiness under the eyes.

Rhubarb to ease redness
Organic Rhubarb is not only known for its sweet taste in pies. It is used as an astringent and disinfectant, therefore helping the skin to heal and reduce redness. Also used for its great source of ascorbic acid and Vitamin C, it is great for fighting wrinkles.

Egg whites to prevent wrinkles
Your grandma’s favorite face mask? Yes it was made with your breakfast. Whisk one raw egg white and apply it to your face until it dries. Do this once a week and you have the most amazing skin.

Fresh cream for soft skin
Cleopatra must have had it right! Rubbing fresh cream on your skin and bathing in milk will work wonders on your body. For beautiful soft skin with barely a wrinkle, if only we had endless supplies of fresh milk.

Rain water for long hair
If you ever used to wonder why your grandmother kept big basins out in her garden that would fill with water whenever it rained, now we know why.
Rainwater will give you thick hair and longer locks, and even fight off the greys. Whenever it rains, you have the option to run out into the storm or simply collect the water and rinse your hair with it! This is one recipe we would have so much fun trying.

So what do you think? Are these just beauty myths from a simpler time or are they verified and reliable facts that we should all implement in our skin care?
