With the cooler wind starting to blow, we can feel our skin start to dry up. Yes it’s time to bring out our winter skin care routine. Meanwhile, as we get the heavy duty moisturizer and we get ready for our seasonal treatments at Dr. Costi’s office, how about we cozy-up with some of the newest trends for soft and comfy skin?
Grab a hot chocolate and let’s check out some of the most promising new trends in skin care.

Niacinamide
Niacinamide is also referred to as vitamin B3, and it’s an essential nutrient that keeps your digestive system, nervous system and brain functioning.
As essential as it is for your body, it may be time to view topical Niacinamide as a permanent item in your skin care, because it can treat almost any skin concern.
So the next you’re buying a beauty product, make sure to check it has this magic ingredient.

Individual Skin Care
Customized skin care is a very big deal for new brands looking to make an impact. With the goal to provide the best care for each person’s individual skin needs, an algorithm will configure the best skin care regimen upon a person’s responses to certain questions like: where they live, their workout regimen, the level of pollution in the area and other.
This ends-up being like a private consultation with a dermatologist and you get a skin care that’s tailored for your skin.

CBD Skin Care
Cannabidiol or CBD is made from cannabis (really) and has been taking off this year. The newest research shows that CBD does have anti-inflammation properties, along with vitamins A, D, and E, to soothe. “Inflammation is the root of acne and aging skin” according to Dr. Costi.
To clarify, CBD oil and hemp seed oil are not the same thing.
They are actually made from different parts of the plant and have completely different purposes. “Hemp seed oil also acts as an emollient to smooth rough cells on the skin’s surface and offers moisturizing benefits,”
With all the new uses for hemp seed oil and CBD, this is only the beginning of their journey into skin care.

Microneedle Patches
Patches are already a big hit: there are patches for everything: acne, moisturizing, wrinkles etc.
And now, patches with microneedles are going to be a great treatment for acne because so many of the acne products are so drying.

According to Dr. Costi, this targeted application with a small amount of acne product will allow a more effective delivery system.
When you apply the patch, the active ingredients rich with hyaluronic acid are directly driven through tiny pricks in the skin.
You can also use it in a whole area to treat the area, like the jawline, for hormonal acne, for more targeted precision.

Polyhydroxy Acids
We already know the chemical exfoliators: alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acid (BHAs).
AHAs (glycolic acid) and BHAs (salicyclic acid) exfoliate the skin with a gentle approach, via chemical reaction.
Now there’s a new generation of acid: Polyhydroxy acid (PHAs) has a larger molecular structure when compared to AHA, which means it’s gentler on skin, making it safer for those with sensitive skin.
While AHAs penetrate deeper and faster into the skin, PHAs take their time with a less-jarring effect, which is why PHAs are better suited for those with sensitive skin. It’s also a humectant, which means the ingredient pulls moisture into the skin to help keep it hydrated as its exfoliating. Sounds amazing doesn’t it?

Now you know what to look for if you’re going the extra mile in perfecting your skin care. Our extra tip is to always book an appointment with Dr. Costi with every change of season. Change of season doesn’t have to mean a change of skin: you can always be glowing and beautiful.
