Spring time for your skin

Spring time for your skin

  • April 12, 2020

It’s that time of year again! Time for renewal, for flowers in bloom and for glowing fresh skin. After the winter months that were dehydrating for your skin, it’s not uncommon for your epidermis to appear dull, rough, leading it to wrinkles. But we won’t let that happen!
It’s the perfect time to rethink your skin care and update your routine, and we’re keeping it as simple and efficient as possible.
Let’s get the glow on and put the magic of rebirth into our spring time skin routine.

1. Refresh
Want great skin? Start with a great cleanser.
Spring is the perfect seasons to try a soothing, purifying facial cleanser that won’t be overly harsh or cause irritation to your complexion. If you’re not sure what to use, just ask Dr. Costi.
Extra tip: Now is the time to clean your skin care supplies. Throw out old makeup and other skin products and refresh your bathroom shelf.
2. Renew
Even though the temperatures are warmer now and friendlier on our faces, skin can still get dried out no matter how much lotion or moisturizer you may use.
This is where exfoliation comes into play! Exfoliating should be done 2-3 times per week, depending on the sensitivity of your skin. This helps get rid of dead skin cells while opening up your pores to allow for optimal hydration. Exfoliation will leave your skin fresh and radiant!
Extra tip: Consider a cosmetic peel or other rejuvenation treatment at your dermatologist. Spring is the perfect time to get these treatments that can be game-changers, sloughing off dead skin, brightening the fresh new layer, and reducing age/brown spots.

3.Nourish
To benefit the most from moisturizing: do it in the morning and the evening when your skin is still damp after cleansing.
Depending on your skin type, look for products with natural oils, like cosmetic-grade flaxseed or grapeseed. These are rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids.
Don’t forget the most delicate skin around your eyes.
Also use moisturizing cleansers to hydrate winter-dried skin and choose products with vitamins A, E and C.
Extra tip: Try rosewater mixed with a little water and use it as a spritz, it’s the perfect spring serum. It also smells fantastic!
4. Defend
Don’t we all wish for eternal sunshine? We just love the sun but we must not forget the number one skin care rule: protection. The only effective way to defend against the sun’s harmful UV rays is by wearing sunscreen. It can help protect you from skin cancer, sun damage, and aging.
Always wear an SPF of 30 or higher making sure it contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
These ingredients physically block both UVA and UVB rays from penetrating the skin and won’t irritate sensitive or acne-prone skin.
Apply sunscreen underneath your makeup or on your bare face, just make sure you have some on.
Extra tip: On a hot day or when you’re on vacation, keep your sunscreen on ice or in the drinks cooler. You won’t believe the way it feels on your skin, and you will want to keep reapplying it!

5. Hydrate
Water cleanses your system, plumps up your skin cells, and helps keep your skin moist, dewy, and fresh. Staying hydrated can keep you feeling alert and refreshed all day long, which is great for body, skin, and mind! Refill your glass all day long.
Extra tip: Looking for some extra hydration? Read our blog about home-made masks for hydrated skin ( http://drcosti.com/quarantine-self-care-with-skin-care/ )

Don’t forget to also benefit from eating fresh fruits and veggies that promote collagen formation. Oranges, broccoli, peppers, berries and Kiwi are high in Vitamin C and will nurse your skin back to elasticity. So are you feeling that spring magic yet? Come on, show us your best spring smile!
