Not only is a washcloth way too harsh for your face, but it also scrubs off oils we need on our bodies. Well beauties, this was news to us! Many people love their shower ritual with a soft washcloth or loofa, but according to Dr. Costi “Ditch the washcloth and just use your hands to wash your face and body.”
Well apparently, your skin hates you twice as much now. We knew that soap dries up our skin and that gentle or non-soap cleansers are the way to go, but there’s even more to it. “Soap’s high pH not only strips away natural oils from your skin, but it also basically destroys it” says Dr. Costi.
Every time you go outside—rain, shine, hot, cold, it doesn’t matter- you have to use sunscreen. If there’s daylight, there are ultraviolet rays; in fact, even when the clouds are blocking your sun, up to 80 percent of the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB can penetrate your skin.
Moisturizers work by trapping existing moisture in your skin, so when your skin is damp really is the best time to do it with a good moisturizer. “The skin is our first line of defense against infections,” explains Dr. Costi. “It helps block bacteria, viruses, and fungi from entering the body.”

According to research, your cell phone has more germs than a public bathroom. And if that’s not horrible enough, listen to this: a toilet seat has about 3 different types of bacteria; but guess how much your cell phones has? Between 10 to 12 different strains.

So we know that there is a big debate whether or not chocolate is guilty in causing our skin to break out. But, what we can be sure of is that sugar can leave your skin dull and wrinkled. When we eat ice cream, cake, and candy bars, sugar molecules bind to proteins in your skin, causing damage to the fibers that keep skin firm and elastic, and leading to wrinkles and sagginess. So be aware if you have a sweet tooth and keep those cravings at bay!
“Beauty sleep” is literally exactly that. Your skin heals itself while you sleep, by making new cells below the surface. So when you don’t get enough rest, skin cells have less opportunity to regenerate; plus, stress hormones increase, which can contribute to inflammation. Research has shown people who get uninterrupted, quality sleep show half as many signs of aging as poor sleepers, including fewer fine lines, better elasticity, and more even skin tone.
There you have it, beauties! From washcloths to beauty sleep, these revelations are your keys to unlocking the secrets of radiant, happy skin.
So, give your skin the love it deserves, follow Dr. Costi’s tips, and let your beauty shine 💖🌙
