6 things you should NEVER put on your face

  • August 19, 2023

Hello, beauties! Taking care of your skin is a top priority, and while experimenting with various products and trends can be fun, it’s important to know what’s safe and effective for your face. From TIKTOK to Skinfluencers we might get overloaded with too much bad advice, so today we asked Dr. Costi for his expert advice on what you should definitely avoid putting on your precious skin.

Let’s dive in.

1. Bar soap

Picture this: You’re washing your face with a bar of soap, hoping for a fresh feel. Unfortunately, the more you lather the more you are drying your skin.  Bar soap is harsh and can strip away your skin’s natural oils, leaving it dry and unhappy. Instead, opt for a gentle facial cleanser that’s specifically designed to nurture your face’s delicate balance.

2. Body moisturizer

The skin on your face is different that the skin on your body, and so are their needs. Using a body moisturizer on your face can lead to clogged pores and unwanted breakouts. Instead, choose a facial moisturizer that’s lightweight, non-comedogenic, and tailored to your skin type.

3. Lemon juice

You might have heard that lemon juice was a natural remedy for acne, but it can actually cause more harm than good. Dr. Costi’s advice is golden here: the acids in lemon juice can lead to nasty reactions under the sun, resulting in blisters and pigmentation. So, avoid rubbing lemons on your face and explore safer skincare alternatives.

4. Alcohol

Alcohol in skincare products might offer a cool sensation, but it’s a not a good solution when it comes to your skin’s health. Astringents and toners containing alcohol can strip away the essential oils that your skin needs to stay balanced, creating a cycle of overproduction and oiliness.

Dr. Costi’s pro-tip: if you’re dealing with oily skin, embrace the power of an oil cleanser for effective cleansing without the harsh aftermath.

5. Expired products

We get it, that expensive serum seemed like a treasure, and it would be a waste to throw it, but using skincare products beyond their expiration date is a big no-no. Even if they seem alright, expired products might not be effective or could even irritate your skin. Always check the date when purchasing and set reminders to replace products when needed.

6. Mysterious ingredients

Never use products that do not list out their ingredients, even if they promise they have “miracle powers”. Your skin is delicate and easily irritated, says Dr. Costi, and “You must know what you are putting on your face.”

In case you need a special product recommendation, discuss it with your dermatologist who will safely guide you to the best skin choices specifically for your skin.

Which number are you guilty of? 🙂 Stay informed, stay radiant beauties!
