2018 has proved a great year for alternative procedures that don’t require a surgery. Facial rejuvenation and body contouring options have evolved and provided us with many options that are suitable for everyone.
What type of new esthetic enhancements did we see in 2018? We asked Dr. Costi to share with us the most popular procedures of this past year.

Nonsurgical everything
In 2018 the nonsurgical trend continued to grow as new and improved technologies were developed to shape, tighten, lift, erase, and generally rejuvenate the skin. From body sculpting to fat melting, innovations in noninvasive procedures will continue to offer patients a multitude of options to meet their desire for self-improvement.
Plastic surgery, especially breast and body contouring procedures, will remain the base for those requiring more dramatic changes.

PRP for rejuvenating the skin and enhancing hair growth.
2018 was be all about stimulating our own cells to naturally reverse some of the signs of aging. It was done with filler injections (small amounts of fillers are injected into and under the skin), fat transfer at the time of a facelift (this enhances the look of these procedures by restoring lost volume) or with platelet-rich plasma PRP for stimulation of collagen building, cell growth and better hair health when injected into the scalp.

Botox
According to our favorite dermatologist, Botox and other neurotoxins are becoming much more popular with younger clientele. It seems that people are not willing to wait for lines to form before they start neurotoxins.
In order to avoid tired looking skin, prevention is key. Patients as early as their 20s and 30s are getting treated before the lines are apparent.

Non-invasive nose jobs
Fillers are mostly used to subtly improve the shape of the nose—and although not permanent, it is a less-expensive option than a traditional rhinoplasty.
When compared to rhinoplasty, Dr. Costi says nonsurgical nose jobs can’t make a nose smaller, but they can help correct imperfections and camouflage areas that are concerning to patients.

Vaginal rejuvenation
We saw a huge rise in the interest of vaginal rejuvenation this year, and it’s not over. Through the use of lasers that help to tighten skin by stimulating collagen, these in-office procedures are providing some patients with both medical and cosmetic benefits.

From face to body
2018 saw a shift from treating the face to treating areas on the body like the legs and arms. Botox and Kybella injections are becoming popular for body treatments. Other than the underarm Botox injections, Kybella is being used for the discrete areas of fat that are too small to be treated with liposuction, like above the knee.

So what’s next in the world of beauty?
Cosmetic dermatology has thankfully advanced so much that there is a solution for almost every beauty problem. 2019 promises even more breakthroughs, and the innovation trend is going strong: more natural injectables, more ecological packaging, and more options for skin healing without surgical intervention.
